"The new Goderich"
That was the theme behind the annual Mayor's Luncheon in Goderich put on by The Huron Chamber of Commerce.
Mayor Kevin Morrison says not only is the world changing, but so in Goderich.
Morrison points to new housing developments, and new businesses coming into town.
He says the housing market in Goderich is hot, and property values increasing at a substantial rate.
Morrison attributes part of that to the Bruce Power expansion.
He says it's a misconception that Goderich is a "retirement town".
Morrison says people from the bigger cities are moving to Goderich because they can work from home.
Morrison reflects on the past year saying Goderich has worked well with others.
He says "The Republic of Goderich" is no more.
Morrison says the hotel development planned for the former Victoria Public School will be discussed at council this coming Monday.
He adds some residents don't believe it will actually happen.
However, Morrison says things this size take time.
Morrison says another project residents have their eyes on is Ag Park Revitalization.
He says money has been set away for the project and things are moving forward.
Morrison stresses that Goderich Hydro is not for sale.
However, they are exploring their options of merging with another company.
