6 Tips to a Better Family Photo
It's summer on Ontario's West Coast and the time is right to capture some great pictures. How do you go about getting the perfect pic? These 6 tips should help:
1. Always be prepared:
- Have your camera with you at all times (with charged batteries and empty memory cards). You never know when those "special moments" will happen!
2. Make a date with your camera:
- We don't mean taking it for dinner and a movie. Just set some time aside to go over the manual and the camera. Read and practice.
3. Find the light:
- Photography is all about lighting. If you want to avoid shadows, make sure there's no bright sunbeams directly on your subject. Find some open shade when you're outdoors and this will make a world of difference.

4. Take time to focus:
- Whether you've got a "point & shoot" or a DSLR, you have to take time to focus your image. Push the shutter button half-way and let the camera do its thing. Once you're happy, push the button the rest of the way and wait until you hear the click.
5. Think outside the box:
- Instead of making your subject move, YOU move! Get lots of different angles once you have found the best light and snap lots of shots. Sometimes an off-center image is more intriguing than a straight-on shot.
6. Variety is important:
- When you look back at your images, you want to remember all the little details. So add some variety to your shots and they all won't look the same when you look back on your pictures later on.
Happy snapping! :)
